Where's Sustainability At?
A deep look behind the current silent state of Sustainability
It's hard to reconcile Europe's heat wave and the SpaceX IPO that has generated the cash to build those giant energy-sapping data centers.
And it's hard to think about, when Sustainability has been silenced from the media and sent out to pasture.
So, I decided to take a look and see where Sustainability is at, given these changes.
What I found was silence and an elimination of the Chief Sustainability Officer role, but the absorption of those responsibilities by other departments and roles within organizations.
I found data showing that investment, climate impact, and supply chain impact are all increasing.
A China that's transformed its energy grid with solar.
Net- I found Sustainability silent, but very much alive, and took a look at what the situation might mean for brands in the new verification era. Where I net out is that if your products and services have verifiable, sustainable benefits, go get them verified by third parties and share that proof. Lapsing on those verifications will not serve you well in an LLM world. In addition, sustainability reporting has gone MIA for the majority of AI players, perhaps suggesting an urgent need for transparency among those users of massive energy and water resources.
